Golf Vacation: Do It Yourself Or Package Vacation

Every year, millions of people from all over the globe embark on golf vacations, blending tourism with sports while escaping from the stresses of everyday life. Every golfer that has experienced such an excursion will tell you that it is essentially two vacations in one. Nearly every coastal city in the world that relies on tourism has built a handful of awe-inspiring golf courses that regularly entice golfers to visit faraway destinations. When you decide to embark on a golf vacation, the most important decision to be made is whether to book a pre-arranged golfing vacation package or simply travel to the locale and take to the links on your own terms. Here are the pros and cons of each.

Do it Yourself Golf Vacation:

The biggest advantage to a do it yourself golf vacation is the fact that you can play golf on your own schedule. If you decide to burn the midnight oil at a dance club, for instance, you won’t be pinned down to any pre-arranged early morning tee time, and you won’t have to rush or rely on the timing of public transportation such as taxicabs to get you to the course on time.

By making up your golf vacation as you go along, you’ll be able to seek out advice from people you meet while out on the course as well as other informed locals regarding the best places to play and the best times to play them. Not being locked into a pre-arranged schedule will allow you to act on tips from fellow golfers that know much more about the area than you do.

Unfortunately, the do it yourself approach can come with some drawbacks, the primary of which is missing out on some of the best deals and courses in the area. Some people who bring their clubs along for a golf vacation plan on playing five or six times in a week, but actually only end up getting out to the course once or twice because of late nights and other factors.

Golf Package Vacation:

When visiting a faraway land that you have little to no knowledge about, it is imperative to leave the scheduling to the experts. Golf vacation packages are put together by folks who are well versed in the area and its golfing scene and have gone to great lengths to ensure that their customers will be treated like royalty at every one of their destinations.

You can be sure that whatever place you purchase a golf vacation package from will have a number of connections in the local area that can equal substantial savings for you. When piecing together several rounds of golf on your own, the costs can easily reach twice the amount that you will pay for a package deal.

The main drawback to buying a package deal is that you will have no flexibility within the structure of your vacation. You are essentially committed to a schedule that has been predetermined before you have even stepped off of the plane.

Conclusion

Freedom of choice is always a good thing to have while on vacation, but you should put a higher value on making sure that you visit the best places for the best prices. A package deal is your best bet.

One Response to Golf Vacation: Do It Yourself Or Package Vacation

  1. That’s an interesting post. I agree that package deals generally are the best idea economically, and because it takes your mind off of the trouble of planning and instead leaves you in good hands. I would argue, though, that it really depends on the location and what all you might discover while you are there. As well, it can be quite frustrating when something unexpected comes up and you are forced to miss an event that you had planned on and have already spent the money to experience. Best bet is to grab a package deal at a resort that has many offerings, and still have the freedom to wander off at your leisure.
